FSSAI: Food Safety and Standard Authority of India.
FSSAI has been created for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
Who needs FASSAI Certification?
Every business operator involved in the food business–manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution and sale should compulsorily have an FSSAI registration.
Difference between FASSI Registration and FASSAI License?
The FSSAI Basic Registration has to be obtained by small FBOs (Food Business Operators) having a turnover up to Rs. 12 Lakhs. On the other hand, the FBOs having a turnover exceeding Rs. Twelve lakhs need to obtain FSSAI License.
The basic purpose of FSSAI Registration is to manage petty and Small FBOs. The FSSAI License mainly focuses on medium and large-sized FBOs. FSSAI Registration is only one type of Registration. FSSAI Registration doesn't have a fixed validity period and depends on registration applicability.
